Schedule
• Night Shift: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
• 12-hour shifts
• Work any 2 days per week, Tuesday–Saturday
• Provider will be onsite
• No call required
Patient Population
• Primarily adults
• Infrequent psychiatric consultations for pediatric patients in the Main Emergency Department
Clinical Details
• Two psychiatric emergency units: PED and PEU
• Psychiatric ER consult team responds to consultations in the Main ED and psychiatric intake area
• Providers assigned to psychiatric ER units manage up to 10 patients per shift
• Consult team averages approximately 5–6 patients per 12-hour shift
• Multidisciplinary team environment
Clinical Responsibilities
• Complete initial psychiatric evaluations
• Complete follow-up psychiatric evaluations
• Coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team
• Communicate recommendations to consulting teams
• Place appropriate orders
• Complete physician-to-physician communication for transfers between PED/PEU and the Main ED
• Consult other services as clinically indicated, including hospitalist medicine
• Complete legal documentation for involuntary psychiatric hospitalization, including OPC applications
• Complete physician-only tasks for APPs, including restraint orders, face-to-face examinations, and required physician signatures
• Admit patients to psychiatric observation when indicated
Requirements
• Board Certified in Psychiatry – REQUIRED
• Board Eligible candidates will NOT be accepted
• Must be comfortable providing psychiatric emergency care
• Must be comfortable with occasional pediatric psychiatric consultations
• Epic experience preferred based on facility EMR
